Antique Carved Hardwood Springerle or Cookie Print Mold Twelve-Scene

Description: Antique Springerle mold or board made of carved hardwood. This is a nice size rectangular springerle displays twelve scenes that are finely and delicately carved patterns, which are outlined by multi-incised lines The front of the springerle has carvings showing acorn, fruits, a bird, a cornucopia, a bell, a basket, animals, and a flower. The carvings are very well and delicately done and show nice details. This cookie mold is on a thick slab of wood marked IIII. on the bottom side. The back of the springerle is plain and undecorated. Please carefully view the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. 

Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 1800s (mid to late 19th century). 

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Lancaster County Pennsylvania USA. 

Size: The board measures ~8 3/8" by ~4 1/2" and is ~3/4" thick. The piece itself weighs about 13 ounces. 

Maker: Unknown 

Marks: Marked IIII. on the bottom side (you can barely see it in the fifth and sixth photos). 

Condition: In very good condition with no losses of repairs. The piece has minor shallow cracks on the top and bottom sides. The piece is soiled and has some stains throughout. It also has some minor losses to the corners and the edges all of which can be seen in the photos. The piece has remnants of an old label on the back near the bottom by the left edge. Finally, the board has some minor surface scratches and dings to the corners, which really are a none issue but mentioned here for completeness. The piece would make a wonderful addition to your collection or as a decorative piece in your home.
