ABC Child Dish Soft Paste China Hunting in The Desert Men Hunting at The Oasis By J & G Meakin

Description:  Antique transferware flat baby dish. This small dish has a flat base with a raised foot. The sides are extending outwards to a slightly slanted wide edge ending in a plain rim. This dish has raised alphabet on the edge of the plate. The flat center is decorated with a transfer print of a two men wearing what looks like fezzes, riding horses and one of the shooting a gun. There is a pray fallen in front of them, two palm trees with additional vegetation on the side next to a water body, horses and hills in the distance. The plate has no writing bur we interpret the scene as a hunting scene in the Arabian desert.  It has green coloring highlighting the vegetation. This is the Chalala #H2-17 design.

Date: Mid 1800's.

Origin: England.

Size: 5 1/2" in diameter and 1/2" high.

Maker: J. & G. Meakin

Marks: Impressed mark which looks like a four leaves shamrock.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice china alphabet baby dish with nice scene and subject.

Condition:  Plate is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It does have crazing and two very small chips to the edge of the rim next to the M. Please see photos to appreciate the condition and beauty of the plate.
